Meandarra, situated 230 km west of Toowoomba, is the hub of a prime production area of grain, cattle, and sheep. Meandarra has the largest storage facilities for Queensland grown wheat, with harvesting from mid-October to mid-November. Its many amenities include a swimming pool, bowls club, golf club, tennis courts, football and cricket ground, School of Arts hall, CWA hall, Dillon Park Sports Club, cattle and sheep saleyards, and the Catholic, Church of England and Assembly of God churches. The Meandarra branch of the Qld Arts Council caters for the craft and cultural needs, as do the CWA, church groups, Hannaford Patchwork Club, and the Meandarra State School.

The town, population 200, has an excellent supply of bore water, as well as electricity, sewerage, railway station, airstrip, ambulance, fire brigade, and a Health and Community Care Centre. Shopping facilities include the Agents - Landmark and Grant, Daniel and Long - Post Office, National Australia Bank (open Tuesdays 10-1), Public Library, Royal Hotel for meals and accommodation, Sara Street Cafe and Motel, Meandarra Hair Flair (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday), Rosemary's Shop (hardware, gifts, souvenirs), Meandarra Newsagency with Heritage agency, Mobil Service Station and Depot, and Craigs Welding and Tyre Service.


Meandarra Apex Club has recently developed the Leo Gordon Apex Park where a free electric barbecue, public toilets, and picnic tables are available. Garrad Park has playground equipment, and Dillon Park houses the sports amenities and club house. Brigalow Creek is well known for its water-lilies and fishing - golden perch and jewfish. Camping is allowed along the creek.

The Meandarra State School Show is held on the 3rd Saturday of September.

This social occasion comprises a trade displays, craft, photography, cookery, produce, flowers, and schoolwork competitions, as well as sheep, wool prime sheep and prime cattle competitions. The Queensland Dog Jumping Championship is an exciting event, and the renowned Meandarra pig races delight young and old.

Other events held during the year include the Australia Day celebrations at Dillon Park, B & S Ball - 2nd Saturday in February, Flinton Race Carnival at Easter, Inglestone Golf Carnival in June, and the Apex Santa Fair - third Saturday in December. Meandarra is a Queensland Tidy Town with a healthy future.
